| Recently I had a lecture on an updated draft of ISO14001: 2004. At
that time I hears the one of main purpose of the revision is to make
the Standard compatible with ISO9001:2000 as possible.
Listening to the lecture, I thought of the two following basic difference
between the both Standards. This time the above differences may be
hard to resolve.
1. Difference of location of gControl of recordsh and gManagement
reviewh clause
In ISO9001: 2000 gControl of recordsh is located at the former part.
Instead, in ISO14001, it is located at the latter part.
I think the location of ISO14001 is rational compared with ISO9001:2000,
because according to PDCA model, g recordsh are born at the Check
process; latter part of PDCA processes.
Likewise, the location of gManagement reviewh clause is totally different
and location in ISO14001 is rational compared with ISO9001:2000.
2. Existence of gControlh
ISO14001 uses words of gOperational controlh for gDoh process in PDCA
process model, but ISO9001:200 uses words of gProduction realizationh,
lacking the word of gcontrolh.
Management does not actual works that correspond to gDoh process in
PDCA process model. Management does control works while gDoh processes
are done by a core system for which management is complementary.
Therefore ISO14001 has the right answers as for the above problems
compared with ISO9001:2000 (refer togA critical misapplication of
PDCA model: 2002; May 3wh in 4.1 clause, gDuplication of monitoring
of processes over internal audits; Jan.2w.2004h in 8.2.2 clause of

gMiss application of PDCA model to ISO9011: 2002; April 3w.2003h in Basic knowledge
