1. An E-mail from a reader of my
Website
One of the reasons why I wanted to become an assessor is that when I
was working in a company, I could not help but be skeptical of assessments
the company received.
Signed documents were piled up and those documents were made for assessorsf
satisfactions. Almost of them were like keeping two sets of books. Wasteful!
I was afraid that the company would be bankruptcy.
But my people were lucky it wasnft worse, because gradually people have
learned how to cheat assessors (for instance, setting minor nonconformities
on purpose).
But the situation is not favorable. So, in order to avoid the situation
I have decided to become a good assessor and now am studying the way
of QM assessments.
One day I attended a training course of QM assessor. He said an assessment
should be done in a way that can provide value to an auditee. I have
become confused with the difference between assessments and consulting.
So I would like to hear your opinions.
2. My answer
An assessor should not be an advisor. It would open the possibility
of undue influence
The difference between nonconformities and recommendations should
be clearly separated. I wonder the lecturer of the course was really
a lead assessor.
The assessors who assessed your company might make various advices,
which might lead to the heavy documentation system.
I hope you will be a good assessor who can distinguish recommendation
from nonconformities.
