1. Editorial by Roger Frost, editor in chief
Management system certification marks should not appear on products
or on product packaging at all to avoid such misunderstanding, as
they are product guarantees.
But he says that management systems that cannot produce successful
outcome in the shape of products are useless.
Therefore, he proposes the certification marks on products inspire
quality confidence.
At the end of last year, I attended a lecture made by a famous assessor.
He said based on his long experiences, 2 or 3 % of ISO9000 registrants
are successful, 90% are unsuccessful and the remainders are about
to leave.
The facts betray Mr. Roger Frost's assumption.
The following article appeared in the same journal also betrays his
assumption.
2. ISO9000 at Q002
Last year, the Q2002 World Congress held in England.
In the opening speech by Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Britain's Minister
of Science and Innovation, he said the main purpose of a quality management
system should always be to improve business performance.
After his speech, television presenter John Humphrys interviewed him
on stage on the harm being done to ISO9000 by unscrupulous certification
body.
Lord Sainsbury admitted the harm and the government supports the UKAS
Awareness Campaign to solve the problem.
It shows certifications of ISO9000 are still no guarantees of product
quality also in England.
Mr. Seddon, English consultant, says in one of his book, called "
The case against ISO9000" that ISO9000 substantially gives no guarantee
of products and there is a better way to improve your efficiency,
satisfy customers, provide real quality and increase revenue. Typical
better ways he refers to are Toyota production system, Taguchi method,
and Deming's concept.
