A phone call from ISO consultant Mr.K (Oct.3w,2002)

Last week Mr. K, a famous ISO9000 consultant and an advocate of my simple ISO9001 system, phoned me about his late ISO9000 consultant activities. The following are the summary of his comment on the phone.

1.The difference in the approach to an assessment between foreign affiliated certification bodies and Japanese ones is totally deferent.
Japanese bodies generally employ feudalistic approaches. Assessors often do consultancy with an air of importance rather than assessments.

2. The boss of one of famous bodies has enforced to write uniformed charts to answer for the requirements of a description of the interaction between the processes of the quality management system. Such enforcement is one of violations of ISO9000 audit system.

3. Generally at first assessors pointed point out about thirty matters, but when Mr. K argue with "shall", the assessors would retreat the pointed matters. But these fruitless and negative discussions have been used to make him gloomy. Should a discussion about customer satisfactions be bright and cheerful?

4. Mr. K has attended assessments and sometimes assessors have rejected his presence in assessments. Generally assessors are eloquent and acquainted with ISO9000 descriptions. Therefore a company often cannot argue with assessors on the same level.

Thus the enforcements of uniformity of documents that give the company wasteful effects will be generated.

Due to the false installation of ISO9000, quality in Japan is now loosing its quality power once threatened the other developed countries in 1980s.
